Aug. 31 - Sept. 4 US/Honors History Lesson


MONDAY


*PBS
*Explain what we are covering: Colonization through Civil War and Economics/Careers
*History Alive Program
~Explain its philosophy…If something can be done better individually than it
should be…but if a group can make something work better by teaming
together, than a group is used.
~No group grade will ever be assigned. Each person’s grade is based on their
Own contribution to the assignment.
*Interactive Notebooks
~Part of the 50% assignment grade. May be used to take tests on most tests
throughout year, so if assignments are done, corrected, and in ntbk. they should
do well.
~Table of Contents will be kept in front of ntbk.
~Ntbk. will be graded 2-3 times per quarter
~Must have a 1” 3-ringed binder to keep work in.
~In order to score above 88pts. on ntbk. extras MUST be done.
*Textbook
~In room copies only….library copies can be checked out as needed
*Absences
~Check on line through the district web site to see what was assigned. (show
using the digital projector how to access my site.)
*Class expectation
~Walking in means getting ready to go…sharpening pencil, getting materials out
filling out agenda and beginning warm-up on board/projector.
*Grading
~Assignments are 50% of grade and tests 50% of grade.

TUESDAY

*HANDBOOK
*Finish yesterdays discussion wherever we left off.
*Begin “I am an American” Poem

WEDNESDAY

(Warm-up)
*Quote: “A loud voice cannot compete with a clear voice, even if it’s a whisper.”Kaufman
*In interactive ntbk. write the quote for warm-up and what they think it means on the handout given to them. Using Kagan pair/share discuss with another what they think it means.
Partner shares the others answer with class and says whether they agree or not and adds their insight.

*Lincoln penny activity. (History Alive)
Bonus: Research the following site re. the Lincoln penny and share 10 interesting things you learned. Write in your interactive ntbk. the learned facts.


~Following activity, write (1)what they learned about Lincoln and (2) what they learned about working in groups.
HW “I am an American” Poem…front cover is due on Friday.
HW Bring a dollar bill for activity tomorrow.

THURSDAY
Warm-up: To lead the people, walk behind them. Lao Tzu
*Dollar bill activity
HW. Finish poem and front cover of ntbk. due tomorrow.

FRIDAY

Warm-up: Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’’ understand.
*Read poems today…share notebooks…have candy bars ready.
*Discuss stocks and what we will be doing.
